Pakistan Destroys Five Indian Jets, Seven Drones, Brigade Headquarters in Response

In a strong counteraction to India’s missile strikes, Pakistan’s armed forces destroyed five Indian Air Force (IAF) jets, a combat drone, demolished a brigade headquarters along with several Indian checkposts across the Line of Control (LoC), and seven drones that attempted to infiltrate Pakistani territory.
General Chaudhry emphasized that the Indian attack, launched from Indian airspace and targeting cities in Punjab and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), was a “cowardly” act that will not go unanswered.
Targeted Areas and Civilian Casualties
During a press conference, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif revealed that Indian missile strikes impacted several Pakistani cities, including Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Ahmedpur Sharqia Bagh, and Muridke. These attacks led to the martyrdom of 26 Pakistani civilians and injuries to 46 others, including eight deaths and 35 injuries in the initial wave of 24 missile strikes.
Pakistan’s Defense Systems Activated Swiftly
The Pakistani Air Force was promptly mobilized following the attack. It successfully activated defense systems and prevented any breach of Pakistani airspace by Indian aircraft, according to DG ISPR. In response, the Pakistan Armed Forces shot down five Indian aircraft, including three Rafale jets and one MiG-21. The aircraft were downed in areas such as Bathinda, Jammu, Srinagar, and others. The Pakistan Armed Forces responded in a short span of time, and the Pakistan Air Force successfully prevented enemy jets from entering Pakistani airspace.
National Security Committee (NSC) Convenes Emergency Session
In response to the escalation, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC). Attended by top military and government officials, the session focused on evaluating Pakistan’s response strategy and the broader security implications of India’s aggression.
Pakistan’s Ministers Confirm Military Successes
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed the destruction of Indian aircraft, including Rafale, Su-30, and MiG-29 jets, and multiple drones. Tarar stated that the Indian military raised a white flag at the LoC, which he interpreted as an admission of defeat.
UN and International Reaction
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern over the situation, urging both nations to show maximum restraint. He highlighted the grave risk of conflict between two nuclear-armed countries and called for urgent diplomatic engagement.
US President Donald Trump also commented on the situation, calling it a “shame” and noting the longstanding history of conflict between India and Pakistan.
Punjab Province and Islamabad on High Alert
In anticipation of further escalation, the Punjab Home Department held an emergency session to enhance provincial security. Hospitals were placed on alert, and law enforcement was ordered to secure critical infrastructure.
Meanwhile, all educational institutions in Islamabad were ordered shut for a day as a precautionary measure by the district administration.
Pakistan Appeals to the United Nations Security Council
Pakistan formally alerted the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) of India’s missile attacks, citing violations of international law and national sovereignty. Pakistan reaffirmed its right to retaliate under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
Prime Minister Vows a Strong Response
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned India’s actions, stating that the attacks constituted an act of war. He declared that Pakistan was fully prepared to respond decisively and appropriately to this aggression.
Background: The Pahalgam Attack and Rising Tensions
Tensions escalated after a deadly attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. India blamed Pakistan without presenting evidence, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised retribution.
India responded by launching missile strikes, banning Pakistani goods and postal services, suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, and reducing diplomatic staff. Pakistan, in turn, halted trade with India and warned of retaliatory measures.
Efforts by countries like Iran to mediate were noted, but tensions remain high. The fallout continues to affect diplomatic, trade, and security dynamics between the two neighbors, with both nations maintaining a hardline stance.
