Villagers in Zafarwal shoot down Indian drone

08 May, 2025 16:27

In a bold act of vigilance, villagers in Punjab’s Tarapur area of Zafarwal shot down an Indian drone on Thursday.

Locals spotted the drone while grazing cattle and quickly took action. They brought it down with gunfire and alerted police. The drone’s wreckage was handed to the Pakistan Army for investigation. Officials praised the civilians’ effort, calling it a strong local response to illegal cross-border activities.

Drone Incidents Across Pakistan

This comes after multiple drone crashes in recent days. In Karachi’s Sharafi Goth, a suspected Indian drone crashed near Gulshan-e-Hadeed Link Road. Police collected debris for analysis. Separately, loud gunfire and explosions were reported in Lahore’s Walton area early Friday. The Pakistan Army later confirmed shooting down a drone there.

Another drone crashed near Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, injuring two people and damaging a restaurant. Authorities said India has increased drone attacks on Pakistani cities, including Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Attock, and Sheikhupura. So far, these incidents have killed one civilian and injured five others, including four soldiers.

How Civilians Are Responding

The Tarapur incident shows civilians are now actively defending their areas. Villagers acted swiftly, proving public awareness can counter drone threats. Pakistan’s military spokesperson (DG ISPR) warned earlier that India is using drones for spying and attacks.

Safety Concerns Grow

Residents in border areas are on high alert. Authorities urge people to report suspicious activity immediately. The repeated drone crashes highlight rising tensions between India and Pakistan. International groups are calling for calm to avoid further clashes.
