AJK Government Suspends Weekend Holidays for Essential Services Amid National Emergency

Weekend holidays suspended for essential departments in Azad Jammu and Kashmir amid national emergency
In response to the ongoing national emergency and increasing regional tensions, the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has issued an urgent order suspending weekend holidays for key departments. This directive, effective immediately, has been issued under the Essential Services Act.
According to the official notification, government officials working in critical sectors such as law enforcement, healthcare, utilities, communication, and other vital public services will now have to work on Saturdays and Sundays until further notice.
Authorities stated that the current emergency situation demands the round-the-clock presence of essential staff to ensure smooth operations and to manage any sudden developments. The move is aimed at maintaining law and order, protecting public welfare, and responding quickly to any emergencies.
A government spokesperson clarified that this is a temporary decision, not a permanent change. However, full compliance is expected from all relevant departments. Heads of departments have been directed to ensure strict attendance monitoring. Any failure to follow this directive may result in disciplinary action according to government service rules.
The general public has been asked to cooperate with authorities during this sensitive time. Officials have also assured that updates and specific departmental instructions will be released as the situation progresses.
