Pakistan-India DGMOs’ scheduled contact postponed

Who is the DGMO of Pakistan? All about Major General Kashif Abdullah
May 12, 2025 – Islamabad: The scheduled communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and India was postponed on Monday, according to a report by a local news agency. The conversation, initially set to take place earlier in the day, is now expected later in the evening.
No official reason was given for the delay. However, the development comes just hours after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level security meeting to review the regional situation ahead of the DGMO-level talks.
The postponed dialogue was to be held between Pakistan Army’s DGMO, Major General Kashif Abdullah, and his Indian counterpart, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai. This interaction was part of a renewed understanding between the two nations to uphold a ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LoC), a move publicly welcomed after former U.S. President Donald Trump announced an end to recent border tensions through U.S.-mediated efforts.
Last week, both military officials had already made contact via hotline. On May 10, they agreed on an immediate ceasefire, pledging to halt all hostilities including land-based artillery fire, aerial violations, and naval operations. That agreement marked the beginning of what is being called a fragile yet hopeful truce between the long-time rivals.
Earlier, in a press briefing, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Ahmed Sharif said that Pakistan remains committed to open communication through military channels such as DGMO talks. He emphasized that such contacts are vital to prevent misunderstandings and reduce the risk of escalation.
Military hotlines between India and Pakistan have now been reactivated to ensure real-time communication in case of border incidents. Officials from both sides have confirmed that the ceasefire remains intact as of Monday afternoon, though tensions continue to be high.
The international community is closely watching the situation, urging both nuclear-armed nations to move toward a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
