Rickshaws to be banned on 7 more roads in Karachi

14 May, 2025 13:18

Karachi’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Police, Pir Muhammad Shah, has announced that rickshaws will soon be banned on seven more major roads in the city. This is part of an ongoing campaign to reduce traffic violations and clear encroachments.

Speaking to the media, the DIG said a strict operation is underway to remove illegal stalls and obstacles from main roads, and action will be taken without any exceptions. He also mentioned that a new and modern traffic management system is being planned to help enforce traffic laws more effectively.

So far, illegal rickshaws have been cleared from areas like Millennium Mall and Nazim Chowrangi, and encroachments have been removed from Empress Market. The next step will include banning rickshaws from additional key roads in Karachi.

He also shared that the long-inactive Traffic Engineering Bureau has now been revived and separated from the Karachi Development Authority (KDA).

In another major step, an automatic e-challan (electronic ticket) system is expected to launch next month, which will help in tracking and punishing traffic rule violators more efficiently.
