Brake failure causes fatal dumper accident in Lahore, five dead

14 May, 2025 22:51

In a tragic road accident, at least five people lost their lives and four others were injured when a speeding dumper truck collided with multiple vehicles in the Baghbanpura area of Lahore on Wednesday.

According to rescue officials, the accident occurred near the Aakhri Minute Stop, when the brakes of the dumper truck failed, causing it to veer off course and slam into three rickshaws and two motorcycles.

Among the deceased are two young girls, Aima and Hafza, a rickshaw driver, and a motorcyclist. One victim has yet to be identified. All bodies were moved to Shalimar Hospital, where the injured are also receiving treatment.

The dumper truck, reportedly hired by the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), was transporting waste from Shadman to a dumping site in Baghbanpura. Witnesses said the truck was moving at high speed when it entered another road from the wrong direction, crashing into traffic.

The driver, identified as Azeem, fled the scene following the collision. Police and rescue teams arrived shortly after the incident to secure the area and clear the road.

This tragedy adds to a growing number of fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles in urban areas across Pakistan. Authorities have been urged to implement stricter regulations on commercial vehicles to prevent such deadly incidents in the future.
