Pakistan, India DGMOs Establish Third Hotline Contact Following Ceasefire

15 May, 2025 15:16

ISLAMABAD: The Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and India held a hotline contact on Wednesday afternoon—marking their third communication since both countries agreed to observe a ceasefire, a move supported by the United States and other allied nations.

Sources familiar with the matter said that the DGMOs of Pakistan and India reviewed the situation on the ground during the their third contact and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the current status quo, in line with their previous exchange on Monday. So far, no formal statements have been issued by either side regarding the specifics of the discussion.

Diplomatic insiders revealed that key international players continue to engage both Islamabad and New Delhi, urging them to exercise restraint and encouraging the implementation of early confidence-building measures (CBMs) to create the groundwork for formal, high-level dialogue.

However, sources warned that moving towards structured talks will be a complex process, requiring both governments to first establish a politically favorable environment.

In efforts to sustain the fragile ceasefire, certain initial measures have already been agreed upon. Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan, Pakistan’s Additional Foreign Secretary and Foreign Office spokesperson, is expected to brief the media on Friday to provide further updates.

Separately, diplomats declared persona non grata by both nations returned to their respective countries on Tuesday after being given a 24-hour deadline to leave. As a result, the diplomatic staff at both high commissions has been reduced to 29 officials each.

Although no positions have been officially removed, replacements are expected once visa approvals are granted by the host countries—likely by August, according to sources.

The ceasefire followed four days of intense military confrontation last week, during which both sides deployed jets, missiles, and drones. The conflict escalated after India targeted what it claimed were terrorist camps in Pakistan, in response to an April 22 attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir that left 26 tourists dead.

Pakistan denied involvement in the incident, asserting that India’s strikes had instead targeted civilian areas.
