NADRA Launches Digital Birth and Death Registration System Across Pakistan

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a digital birth and death registration system at hospitals and healthcare centers throughout Pakistan. This move aims to modernize civil registration and ensure accurate, real-time data entry into the national database.

To advance this initiative, NADRA signed agreements with the governments of Sindh and Balochistan in separate ceremonies. In Sindh, the agreement was endorsed by the Secretary Health, Secretary Local Government, and Director General NADRA Karachi, with Sindh Minister for Local Government Mr. Saeed Ghani present at the signing.

“NADRA is modernising the system for civil registration and the recording of vital life events.” With the digital framework now active in hospitals and health centers, birth and death data will be captured directly at the source.

“Accurate and complete data of citizens will be entered into the national database in a timely manner, NADRA said.”

These improved statistics will play a key role in boosting economic development, aligned with the government’s “Uraan Pakistan” program. “Based on this data, revolutionary projects such as digital ID and digital economy will be implemented, it said.”

NADRA’s digital initiative is part of the World Bank-supported “Digital Economy Enhancement Project,” which is being carried out in partnership with multiple national organizations.

In a related development, NADRA has also announced that first-time applicants for national identity cards without chips will receive them free of charge.
