Dar begins three-day official visit to China

19 May, 2025 16:41

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Beijing for a three-day official visit, marking the first high-level diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and China following the recent ceasefire with India.

Dar’s special aircraft landed in the Chinese capital where he and his delegation were warmly received by senior Chinese government officials at the airport.

The visit comes at a critical time as both countries look to strengthen diplomatic coordination amid regional tensions.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the trip is part of ongoing high-level exchanges and underscores the enduring strength of the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

During the visit, Deputy PM Dar will hold key discussions with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Talks are expected to focus on a broad spectrum of issues including bilateral cooperation, regional stability, and strategic developments in light of the recent Pakistan-India standoff, particularly after the Pahalgam incident.

The Pakistani delegation also includes Special Representative for Afghanistan Mohammad Sadiq, highlighting the significance of Afghanistan in broader regional discussions.

Foreign Office sources confirmed that the two foreign ministers will conduct a comprehensive review of Pakistan-China relations, covering economic collaboration, security cooperation, and ongoing projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

This high-level visit reflects Islamabad’s commitment to deepening ties with Beijing at a time of increased diplomatic activity, and reinforces mutual trust between the two traditional allies. Both countries are expected to issue a joint statement following the meetings.

The visit is seen as a reaffirmation of strategic unity, especially amid evolving regional challenges and the need for coordinated responses to security and diplomatic pressures from India.
