Pakistan Embassy in UAE will be closed on Wednesday

27 May, 2025 14:21

The Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, UAE, will stay closed tomorrow (Wednesday) in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer. This day is marked every year to remember the historic nuclear tests done on May 28, 1998, in Chagai, Balochistan.

A press release said, “Pakistani Community based in the United Arab Emirates is informed that the Embassy of Pakistan, Abu Dhabi will remain closed on Wednesday, 28 May 2025, being public holiday on the occasion of ‘Youm-e-Takbeer’.”

The federal government of Pakistan has also declared May 28 as a public holiday. A notification has been issued by the Establishment Division. The Sindh government has made a similar announcement, saying that all provincial offices, local councils, and government departments will remain closed on this day.

The Pakistan Stock Exchange will also remain closed on May 28.

Youm-e-Takbeer Holiday

Youm-e-Takbeer is celebrated every year to honor the day when Pakistan successfully conducted nuclear tests on May 28, 1998. These tests made Pakistan the seventh nuclear power in the world and the first Muslim country with nuclear weapons.

This important achievement is linked to the vision of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who once said that even if the nation had to starve, Pakistan would become a nuclear power.

Years later, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif made the bold decision to go ahead with the tests, despite pressure from other countries. This step helped balance the strategic power in the region and strengthened Pakistan’s defense.
