PIA privatization bid deadline extended to June 19, 2025

PIA issues update on Gulf and Europe flights after Iran-Israel tensions
The government of Pakistan has extended the deadline for submitting bids to privatize Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
The new deadline is June 19, 2025, while the previous one was June 3. All other terms and conditions remain the same.
According to an official notice, interested parties must now submit their bids and Statements of Qualification by 4:00 PM on June 19.
About PIA
PIA is Pakistan’s national airline and operates under Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL). The government owns about 96% of its shares through the PIA Holding Company Limited.
PIA runs full-service flights, operating around 268 flights per week to 30 different destinations. Last year, the airline served nearly 4 million passengers.
Why the Privatization?
The government plans to sell between 51% to 100% of its shares in PIA. This move is part of a wider effort to reform state-owned companies that are losing money. The step is also linked to a $7 billion program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) aimed at improving Pakistan’s economy.
