Nauman Ijaz Faces Backlash Over Eid Sacrifice and iPhone Price Comparison Post
Renowned Pakistani actor Nauman Ijaz has sparked controversy on social media following an Instagram post in which he compared the high prices of sacrificial animals for Eid ul Adha to the cost of an iPhone.
While some users appreciated his commentary on inflation, others criticized the post for what they perceived as a disrespectful tone toward a religious obligation.
In the post, Ijaz joked that people often complain about how expensive iPhones are, yet when they go to purchase a sacrificial animal, it’s as if sellers are asking for property ownership documents. He concluded by encouraging people to visit the livestock markets themselves to witness the prices.
Although seemingly humorous and meant to shed light on rising inflation, the post received backlash from many social media users, particularly those with strong religious views.
Critics accused the actor of trivializing a significant Islamic ritual by likening it to a luxury product. One user noted that people spend lavishly on phones and fashion but start citing financial concerns when it comes to religious duties. Another suggested that those unable to afford the sacrifice should simply opt out instead of mocking the tradition.
The reaction highlighted growing public sensitivity around the way religious practices are portrayed online, especially by celebrities. This isn’t the first time Ijaz has commented on market conditions. In an earlier post, he shared a satirical image of a chicken, implying that even poultry could be absurdly overpriced in the current market. That post also received a mixed response, with many agreeing with his critique of rising prices.
Despite the criticism this time, some users defended Ijaz, arguing that his post was a commentary on market exploitation rather than religion. Supporters claimed the message was misunderstood and emphasized that pointing out inflation does not equate to disrespecting religious values.
Nauman Ijaz has not responded to the backlash, and the post remains live on his Instagram account, continuing to draw a mix of support and disapproval.
