Prisoner escaped from Malir Jail commits suicide at home
Police have solved the mystery behind the body found hanging inside a house in Karachi’s Maripur area. The man has been identified as Raza, an escaped prisoner from Malir Jail, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
Raza was earlier arrested in a drug-related case registered at Eidgah police station on March 30, 2022. After his arrest, he was sent to Malir Jail.
Raza Was Among the Earthquake Escapees
A few days ago, over 200 prisoners escaped from Malir Jail after the jail was damaged during earthquake tremors. The exact number of escapees was 214.
According to police officials, Raza was one of the escapees who fled during the chaos. After escaping, he went into hiding. His dead body was later found hanging inside a house in Maripur, Karachi.
Police believe it was a case of suicide. There was no sign of foul play, and Raza had reportedly been under mental stress since the escape.
Major Jailbreak Details
So far, the police have managed to recapture 119 out of 214 escaped prisoners. 95 prisoners are still missing. Authorities said that many of those who returned to jail did so with the help of their families, who convinced them to surrender.
This incident has raised serious questions about prison security and the impact of natural disasters on prison facilities.
