Bilawal Bhutto reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to peace
A senior parliamentary delegation from Pakistan, led by former Foreign Minister and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, recently met with top members of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee in Washington. The high-level dialogue focused on promoting peace in South Asia, addressing ongoing tensions, and strengthening Pakistan-U.S. relations.
During the meeting, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari warned the committee about India’s recent provocations, including military strikes targeting civilians, which he said posed a serious threat to regional stability. He also criticized India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a “flagrant violation of international law” that jeopardizes millions of lives in Pakistan and sets a “dangerous precedent for the weaponization of vital resources.”
Addressing the worsening situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Bilawal reiterated Pakistan’s consistent position that Kashmiris must be granted their “internationally recognized right to self-determination.”
The delegation praised the United States’ past role in promoting de-escalation between India and Pakistan and reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to achieving peace through dialogue and diplomacy.
Economic matters were also discussed, with both sides highlighting the need to expand trade and economic cooperation between the two nations.
The U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee members welcomed the delegation’s perspectives and reaffirmed their strong support for the people and Government of Pakistan.
On social media platform X, Bilawal Bhutto shared that he had productive conversations with Chairman Brian Mast, Ranking Member Gregory Meeks, Chair of the Subcommittee on South and Central Asia Bill Huizenga, and Congressman Brad Sherman.
In his post, Bilawal said: “I shared Pakistan’s concerns over India’s recent provocations, including the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, a dangerous precedent and a violation of international law.” He also underlined the humanitarian crisis in Kashmir and reiterated: “Lasting peace cannot be achieved through coercion, but through dialogue and diplomacy.”
He expressed appreciation for U.S. efforts to promote peace and concluded by affirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional stability and a just resolution of the Kashmir conflict.
