Maryam Nawaz rejects new tax proposals in Punjab budget

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has rejected several proposals to impose new taxes in the upcoming provincial budget, showing a firm stance to protect public interests.

According to media reports, the ministerial committee had submitted its budget recommendations, including:

• A 2% tax on houses measuring 10 marlas or more

• A 2% increase in motor vehicle tax

• An increase in credit/debit card tax from 5% to 8%

However, all these proposals were turned down by Maryam Nawaz. Instead, she directed officials to focus on expanding the tax net by including individuals and businesses currently outside the system.

The move is seen as part of her effort to provide economic relief to citizens while ensuring fairness in tax collection.
