Iran Declared in Non-Compliance with Nuclear Commitments by IAEA; Tehran Announces Retaliatory Measures
Vienna: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) officially declared Iran in non-compliance with its nuclear commitments during the Board of Governors meeting in Vienna.
The resolution was supported by 19 countries, including the United States and the E3—France, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
Opposing the measure were Russia, China, and Burkina Faso. Eleven countries abstained from the vote, among them South Africa, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Indonesia, and Brazil.
In swift response, Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency announced a set of retaliatory actions. Tehran will significantly increase its enriched uranium production and will open a third enrichment facility at a hardened and secure location.
Additionally, Iran plans to replace its first-generation IR-1 centrifuges at the underground Fordow facility with advanced IR-6 centrifuges. The Iranian authorities also declared a sharp reduction in cooperation with the IAEA and signaled that agency inspectors may be expelled from the country.
