Karachi Weather Today: PMD Predicts More Pleasant Weather After Light Rainfall

20 June, 2025 13:03

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that Karachi is expected to witness cloudy and pleasant weather over the next three days after the city experienced light rainfall today.

According to the reports, the brief showers hit various areas of Karachi, including Gulshan-e-Maymar, Sohrab Goth, Scheme 33, Federal B Area, Liaquatabad, University Road, Stadium Road, and PECHS. The drizzle brought a noticeable drop in the feels-like temperature, offering temporary relief to residents after enduring several days of intense heat, with temperatures soaring past 40°C.

PMD has predicted that the daytime temperatures will range between 33°C and 35°C, with a slight increase to 35°C–37°C by Monday.

In its pre-monsoon advisory, the PMD noted that moist currents from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea have started entering the country. This development marks the early stages of the monsoon season, with a weather system likely to influence Sindh by the last week of June. Higher-than-usual rainfall is expected in the province this season.

From June 22 to 24, thunderstorm-related rainfall and strong winds are predicted in Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, and Jacobabad. Pre-monsoon rains are also forecast across various regions of the country through June 23, offering relief from the ongoing heatwave.

The wet spell may include dust storms, wind-rain, and thundershowers, with isolated incidents of heavy rainfall and hailstorms. A westerly wave is also expected to move into the upper regions starting Friday, contributing to unstable weather conditions.

The Met Office has warned of potential damage from windstorms and lightning to vulnerable structures such as electric poles, trees, solar panels, and parked vehicles, particularly in upper and central areas including Islamabad.

There is a risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Islamabad during heavy rainfall. Farmers have been advised to adjust crop management activities according to the forecast.

The PMD has urged the general public, travellers, and tourists to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel to flood-prone or vulnerable areas. Authorities have been advised to remain on alert and take all necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the forecasted weather conditions.
