No Talks with US While Israeli Attacks Continue: Iranian Deputy FM Araghchi

20 June, 2025 15:36

Tehran: Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has firmly rejected the possibility of any negotiations with the United States while Israeli attacks on Iran continue, emphasizing that diplomacy is off the table under current conditions.

Speaking in an interview broadcast on Iranian state television (IRIB) on Friday, Araghchi revealed that Washington had sent multiple messages seeking serious dialogue with Tehran. However, he made clear that Iran will not engage in any talks while what he described as “aggression” persists.

“The Americans have repeatedly sent messages calling seriously for negotiations. But we have made clear that as long as the aggression does not stop, there will be no place for diplomacy and dialogue,” Iranian Deputy FM Araghchi stated.

The senior diplomat, who is scheduled to meet European counterparts in Geneva, clarified that those talks will focus solely on nuclear and regional issues. He ruled out any discussion of Iran’s missile program or defense capabilities.

“We’d not hold any talks with the US which is complicit in the (Israeli) crimes. We have had no dialogue or contact with the Americans and will not do so in the current circumstances either,” he said.

Reiterating Iran’s position, Araghchi stressed, “Let’s make it clear. We do not seek to negotiate with anybody in the current circumstances while the Zionist regime’s aggression is in progress.”

He underscored that Iran’s missile capabilities remain a cornerstone of its national defense strategy and are not open to negotiation.

“Our missiles are meant to defend the country and create deterrence,” Araghchi affirmed, adding: “Iran will never negotiate or compromise on its defense capabilities.”

Describing the country’s current military posture as an exercise in legitimate self-defense, he stated: “Such defense will not stop by any means.”

The remarks of Iranian Deputy FM Araghchi come amid heightened tensions in the region and reflect Iran’s refusal to entertain diplomatic overtures from the U.S. while Israeli military actions continue.
