In a significant diplomatic move, the Pakistani government has announced its decision to officially nominate former U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize 2026.
Officials in Islamabad credit Trump with playing a crucial role in defusing recent tensions between Pakistan and India, which nearly escalated into a full-scale war. The government stated, “The Pakistan-India war was averted due to the intervention of US President Trump.”
According to Pakistan, India’s unprovoked aggression resulted in the loss of innocent civilian lives, including women and children. In response, Pakistan launched a military operation named Operation Banyan Marsu as a legitimate act of self-defense. The action was intended to restore the regional balance and protect Pakistan’s territorial sovereignty.
The government praised Trump’s diplomatic efforts, saying, “President Trump’s far-sighted leadership has established diplomatic contacts with Islamabad and New Delhi,” helping to stabilize the tense situation. Pakistan also expressed appreciation for “President Trump’s sincere offer to help resolve the Kashmir issue.”
Officials emphasized that lasting peace in South Asia remains unlikely without the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.
Looking ahead, Pakistan expressed hope that Trump will continue promoting peace globally, including in the Middle East, with attention to crises in Gaza and tensions with Iran.
It’s worth noting that Trump himself claimed on Truth Social on May 10 that he had brokered a ceasefire between Pakistan and India. He later told the media, “I should receive the Nobel Prize for ending the war between Pakistan and India, but only liberals receive the Nobel Prize, and these people will not give it to me.”
