Who was Camilo Nuin?
The young athlete played as a reserve team player for San Telmo, a club based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Before joining San Telmo in 2022, Camilo had trained in the youth academies of two of the country’s biggest football clubs – Boca Juniors and Independiente.

Camilo Nuin had been passionate about football from a young age. He started his journey in youth divisions, quickly gaining attention for his dedication and potential. His time with the youth setups of Boca Juniors and Independiente gave him solid training and a chance to grow within Argentina’s competitive football scene.
In 2022, he joined San Telmo, where he continued to develop as a player. Coaches and teammates described him as disciplined, humble, and committed.
Tragic Death During Surgery
Camilo underwent surgery at Clínica Espora in Adrogué, Buenos Aires, to repair injuries in his knee joint. These included meniscal damage and a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament).
During the procedure, something went wrong. His father, also named Camilo Nuin, shared the heartbreaking moment with Telenoche, recalling: “He went into the operating room, and after an hour or so, they told me things were complicated, and they were resuscitating him… Then someone else came out and said, ‘He’s dead’.”
The exact cause of death has not been officially announced. Authorities have said an autopsy will be carried out at the La Plata morgue.
Reactions and Mourning
San Telmo confirmed his death in a heartfelt statement, saying: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Camilo Ernesto Nuin… The club will remain closed today as a sign of mourning.”
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) also shared condolences, with President Claudio Tapia stating on X (formerly Twitter): “A very sad piece of news that shakes the entire football world.”
Teammates, friends, and coaches were devastated, especially those who found out just before their match against Defensores de Belgrano.
San Telmo is now observing an official mourning period and has offered full support to Camilo’s family.
