ISLAMABAD – The federal government has decided to take strict administrative measures to ensure law and order during Muharram, including action against those spreading religious hatred on social media.
A high-level meeting on Muharram security planning was chaired by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Interior Secretary, Acting CDA Chairman, Commandant Frontier Constabulary, Islamabad DC, DIG Islamabad Police, IGPs of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, as well as DGs Rangers Punjab and Sindh, joined via video link.
The meeting reviewed security plans for Muharram across all provinces, including AJK, GB, and Islamabad.
It was decided that strict action will be taken against individuals spreading religious hatred on social media. Any decisions regarding internet or mobile service suspension will be made in consultation with provincial governments.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said all actions and decisions will be made through mutual consultation. “The federal government will provide full support to maintain peace. No one will be allowed to incite violence or create unrest,” he said.
He added that all participants must strictly follow the code of conduct during Muharram. Modern technology will be used to monitor religious gatherings and processions for security purposes.
