Following the recent ceasefire between Iran and Israel, efforts to establish a ceasefire in Gaza have also accelerated. Israeli attacks have resulted in the deaths of 81 Palestinians and left more than 400 injured.
According to a reports, Majid Al Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that mediators involved in Gaza are negotiating with Israel and Hamas to advance ceasefire efforts in the Palestinian territories, building on the ceasefire agreement reached with Iran earlier this week.
In an interview with AFP on Friday, Al Ansari explained that Doha, working alongside Washington and Cairo in the mediation process, aims to capitalize on the positive momentum created by the recent ceasefire to resume negotiations in Gaza.
He emphasized, “If we do not seize this moment and act quickly, it will be another missed opportunity, as has happened repeatedly in recent times. We do not want to witness that again.” Al Ansari also serves as an advisor to Qatar’s Prime Minister.
US President Donald Trump expressed optimism on Friday regarding the new ceasefire prospects in Gaza, suggesting that an agreement between Israel and Hamas could be finalized by next week.
Mediators have been engaging with both sides for several months in efforts to end the 20-month-long conflict in Gaza. Al Ansari clarified that, although direct talks are not currently taking place, Qatar maintains active separate communication with all parties involved.
