PDMA Issues Monsoon Alert and Fact Sheet

30 June, 2025 13:00

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a Monsoon Alert Fact Sheet, outlining the latest situation on rainfall, water levels in rivers, dams, and barrages across Punjab.

According to the report, rain has been recorded in several areas over the last 24 hours, including Murree, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Attock, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Chakwal, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia confirmed that 18 people have lost their lives due to the recent monsoon spell, while 57 others sustained injuries. Among the deceased were 11 children, 3 women, and 7 men. Most fatalities were caused by collapsing rooftops and weakened structures. Two people died from lightning in Khanewal and Okara, and two children died from electrocution in Mandi Bahauddin.

The report notes that 27 homes were damaged, and as per government instructions, financial aid will be provided to the affected families.

The first spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until Tuesday, July 1. While water levels in rivers and barrages remain normal, PDMA has finalized emergency preparations due to possible flooding.

There is a risk of urban flooding in Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala, and the city administrations are on high alert. The PDMA and district emergency centers are monitoring the situation round-the-clock.

“The Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on bathing in rivers, canals, and rainwater drains. Violators will face strict action.”

“PDMA also advises citizens to stay indoors during extreme weather, avoid going near electric poles or wires, and call the emergency helpline 1129 if needed.”
