Metro bus fare increase from July 1 - check new minimum fare
Travelling on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Peshawar has become more expensive as authorities raised fares starting July 1. This change has added pressure on daily commuters, especially students, workers, and low-income residents.
New Fare Details:
Minimum fare: Raised from Rs 20 to Rs 30
Maximum fare: Now Rs 70
Per stop increase: Between Rs 5 and Rs 10
Officials explained that the fare hike was necessary due to rising operating costs, inflation, and system maintenance expenses. They said the changes were aimed at reducing the financial losses the BRT system has been facing.
Many locals have expressed concern, especially at a time when the cost of living is already high. So far, no subsidy or relief has been announced to support passengers affected by the increase.
About Zu Peshawar BRT
The Zu Peshawar BRT is a major public transport service in the city. Launched in 2020, it runs along a 27 km route from Chamkani to Karkhano Market, with 30 stations on the main line. It also connects with other parts of the city through feeder routes.
Designed to make travel easier and faster, the BRT system has become a vital part of daily life in Peshawar. However, with the new fare hike, many fear it could become less affordable for those who rely on it most.
