Permanent Chief Justices Name
Islamabad: The Judicial Commission has approved the names of permanent Chief Justices of Peshawar, Balochistan, Sindh and Islamabad High Courts.
The meeting of the Judicial Commission to appoint permanent chief justices of the four high courts was held under the chairmanship of Chairman Judicial Commission Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.
The meeting considered the names of the three most senior judges of each high court for the appointment of permanent chief justices of the Sindh, Balochistan, Peshawar, and Islamabad High Courts.
The Judicial Commission approved the name of Justice Attique Shah for the post of Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court.
Justice Sarfaraz Dogar was approved for the post of Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court.
The Judicial Commission approved the names of Justice Rozi Khan for the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court and Justice Junaid Ghaffar, the most senior judge, for the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court.
The Judicial Commission has informed the Prime Minister about the appointment of Chief Justices of High Courts. The Secretary Judicial Commission has written a letter to the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
The letter states that the Prime Minister should complete the process of appointing judges under sub-clause 8 of Article 175A.
It should be noted that the Judicial Commission has 13 permanent members, however, for the Chief Justice of the High Court, the number of members of the Commission is 16, while the Chief Justice is appointed by a majority of at least 9 members.
The meeting of the Judicial Commission was attended by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, 4 Supreme Court judges, the Attorney General, 2 government members, and 2 opposition members.
The provincial law minister, a High Court bar representative, and a former judge attended for each province’s Chief Justice.
The Pakistan Bar was represented in the Judicial Commission by Ahsan Bhawan, and Roshan Khursheed Bharocha, the nominee for Speaker of the National Assembly, also participated.
