Karachi Civic Centre to open on weekends for vehicle registration
Sindh’s Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla has announced that the Motor Registration Wing at Karachi’s Civic Centre will now stay open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
This weekend’s schedule will cover important services like motorcycle ownership transfers, issuance of number plates for cars and bikes, and payment of registration fees. The decision was made to help reduce weekday crowds and make it easier for people to access these services.
DG Excise and Taxation Sindh, Iqbal Ahmed Laghari, said the new timing will improve operations and meet the growing needs of citizens.
This change comes after complaints about long lines and delays in issuing Sindh’s new “Ajrak” number plates.
Many Karachi residents faced fines and even had their vehicles seized—over 12,000 vehicles have reportedly been impounded so far because of non-compliance. People have also criticized the high cost and slow process of replacing old plates.
