Sajid Nawaz Released After Alleged Remarks on Maryam Nawaz
Sajid Nawaz Remarks Against Maryam Nawaz
LAHORE: A local court in Lahore on Tuesday discharged an elderly man, Sajid Nawaz, who had been arrested for allegedly using abusive language against Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, citing a lack of evidence.
Sajid was brought before Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Farid Qureshi at the Model Town Court, where the judge ordered his release and removal of handcuffs on the court premises. The court noted that no official case had been registered against him.
During the hearing, Advocate Sameer Khan Khattak argued that Sajid had been illegally detained for two days without being produced in any court. He also alleged that the police forced Sajid to record apology videos, which were later circulated on social media. A habeas corpus petition had earlier been filed by Sajid’s son, Muhammad Umar, demanding his recovery and release.
The arrest came after a video of Sajid riding a motorcycle in the rain went viral, where he was allegedly heard using abusive language about the chief minister. The court found no legal grounds for his continued detention.
