Several injured as passenger coach targeted by gunfire in Balochistan's Kalat
A passenger coach traveling from Karachi to Quetta came under attack near a Kalat checkpost on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Police confirmed that at least 10 passengers suffered injuries after gunfire targeted the coach.
The coach, carrying around 40 to 50 people, was nearing the checkpoint when gunmen opened fire. The driver, surprised by the sudden attack, had little time to react. Police arrived quickly and moved the injured to Kalat district hospital.
Local police say 10 passengers were injured. Some had bullet wounds; others were injured in the panic. No one has died so far. Victims include both men and women; their conditions vary from serious to stable.
This road is a key link between Karachi and Quetta. Thousands travel this route each week.
SHO Kalat, Habibullah, said police and Levies forces are stepping up patrols. They aim to catch those responsible and increase checkpoints along the highway. Local leaders have condemned the violence. They urge better road security for civilians.
