BYD Pakistan is set to introduce its Shark 6 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) in Pakistan on July 25. This marks an important milestone as the company expands its global reach beyond China.
Global Launch and International Pricing
The Shark 6 was first unveiled globally on May 14, 2024, in Mexico, where it was priced between USD 50,000 and USD 60,000. Initially, it became BYD’s first pickup to be introduced outside China, and it has since been launched in markets including Australia, Brazil, the Philippines, and South Africa.
Performance and Features
The Shark 6 comes equipped with a 1.5-liter hybrid-special turbo engine, which is paired with the BYD Blade Battery. This combination produces up to 321 kW of power and 650 Nm of torque. Key driving aids such as Hill Hold Control, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Hill Descent Control, and Auto Hold further enhance its performance and driving experience.
Expected Pricing in Pakistan
While the official price in Pakistan has not yet been announced, experts suggest that the Shark 6 will enter a competitive segment. It is anticipated to contend with traditional fuel-powered double-cabin pickups like the Toyota Hilux Revo, Isuzu D-Max, and JAC T9 Hunter, which typically range from PKR 10 million to PKR 20 million.
Due to its advanced hybrid technology, the Shark 6 is expected to be positioned at a higher price point. PakWheels.com estimates that the price could be between PKR 19 million and PKR 20 million, reflecting its superior features and performance compared to conventional models.
Market Trends and BYD’s Presence
In recent years, Chinese automotive brands have been gaining trust in Pakistan. Models from manufacturers like Haval, BYD, and Changan are increasingly popular for their performance, features, affordability, and comfort.
Currently, BYD offers two models in Pakistan: the Atto 3, priced at approximately PKR 9 million, and the Seal, which ranges between PKR 15 million and PKR 17 million. The launch of the Shark 6 further strengthens BYD’s presence in the country, especially in the pickup segment.
