KP Assembly Session Postponed Till 24 July Due to Lack of Quorum, Opposition Protests

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session has been postponed till 24 July due to an incomplete quorum. The opposition started protesting and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) has announced its boycott.

The meeting, which was convened for the oath-taking of members elected on reserved seats, started with a delay of 2 hours and 24 minutes under the leadership of Speaker Babar Saleem Swati. After Sher Ali Arbab pointed out the lack of quorum, the Speaker directed a headcount.

As the required number of members was not present, the session was adjourned until July 24.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Aftab Alam revealed that PTI’s parliamentary party had decided to boycott the session. He said that party members are dissatisfied and chose not to attend.

The session was originally scheduled for 9:00 AM, and the absence of quorum has now raised concerns over the oath-taking process of those elected on reserved seats.

During this session, elected representatives on 21 women’s reserved seats and 4 minority reserved seats were expected to take their oaths.

Among the women taking oath are 7 from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), 7 from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), 4 from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), 2 from Awami National Party (ANP), and 1 from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

On the minority reserved seats, JUI’s Askar Parvez and Gorpal Singh are expected to take their oath, along with PML-N’s Sarish Kumar and PPP’s Bahari Lala, who were also elected on quota seats.

The assembly session had announced a ban on the entry of guests.
