PMD Predicts More Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms, Strong Winds Across Pakistan; Flood Alerts Issued

The Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast predicting rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in Islamabad and several other regions.

According to the department, rain with strong winds and thunder is expected today in Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, northeastern Punjab, the Pothohar region, Gilgit-Baltistan, northeastern and southern Balochistan, and southern Sindh.

Heavy rainfall is likely in some areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar region, Kashmir, and adjacent hilly regions, while the rest of the country will experience hot and humid weather.

In Islamabad, strong winds and thunderstorms with rain are forecast. Rain is also expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Chakwal, Attock, Sargodha, Khushab, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, and Mandi Bahauddin.

Additional rain is predicted in Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and nearby areas, as well as Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain with thunderstorms is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Shangla, Malakand, Peshawar, Nowshera, Swabi, Bajaur, Mardan, Kurram, Orakzai, Hangu, Kohat, Bannu, and Waziristan.

Balochistan regions likely to receive rain include Barkhan, Sibi, Kohlu, Musakhel, Loralai, Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Zhob, Quetta, Mastung, Ziarat, Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran, Lasbela, and surrounding areas.

In Sindh, rain with strong winds and thunder is expected in Karachi, Thatta, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Mithi, Tharparkar, Badin, Umerkot, Sukkur, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, Dadu, and Shaheed Benazirabad.

The Meteorological Department also forecasts rain with strong winds and thunderstorms in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Meanwhile, a flood alert has been issued due to expected heavy rainfall continuing until July 25.

Rain is also predicted in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Chakwal, Gujrat, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang, Sargodha, and Mianwali.

There is a risk of significantly increased water flow from rain in northern areas. Both upper and plain regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will see intermittent rain, with flooding risks in rivers such as Kabul, Swat, Kalpani Nullah, and Bara Nullah.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of possible flash floods and landslides in mountainous regions. Flooding concerns extend to Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and other areas. Rain is also forecast for Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Multan.

Irfan Kathia, Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), stated there is a risk of increased water flow in rivers and streams across Punjab, prompting an alert to the entire provincial administration.
