Upcoming solar eclipse of 2025 – Check Date, time & locations

21 July, 2025 15:37

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced details of the next solar eclipse, expected to occur between the night of September 21 and the early morning of September 22, 2025.

According to the PMD, this will be a partial solar eclipse. Unfortunately, it won’t be visible in Pakistan, but it can be seen in some regions of the Southern Hemisphere.

Where Will the Eclipse Be Visible?

The eclipse will be visible from:

  • Southern parts of Australia

  • Parts of the Pacific Ocean

  • Parts of the Atlantic Ocean

  • Antarctica

Skywatchers in these regions will be able to see the Moon partially covering the Sun, creating a stunning visual event.

Eclipse Timings (Pakistan Standard Time)

  • Partial Eclipse Begins: 10:30 PM – September 21

  • Maximum Eclipse: 12:42 AM – September 22

  • Partial Eclipse Ends: 2:54 AM – September 22

Although the event will not be visible from Pakistan, astronomy enthusiasts can still follow it through online live streams provided by international observatories and space agencies.

What is a Partial Solar Eclipse?

A partial solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, but doesn’t cover the Sun completely. Instead, it hides only a portion of the Sun’s surface.

This means the sky remains relatively bright, unlike a total eclipse, where daylight briefly turns into darkness. However, the shape of the Sun looks like a bite has been taken out of it.

Safety Reminder

For those in regions where the eclipse will be visible, it’s important to use special solar viewing glasses or eclipse-safe equipment.

Never look directly at the Sun without proper eye protection. Even during a partial eclipse, doing so can cause serious eye damage or even permanent blindness.

Why Do Eclipses Matter?

Eclipses are natural reminders of the constant motion of the Moon, Earth, and Sun. They also offer scientists opportunities to study the Sun’s corona and solar activity. For many people, they are a chance to witness one of nature’s most fascinating displays.
