221 Dead, Over 800 Homes Destroyed in Nationwide Torrential Rains
The recent torrential rains across the country have claimed 221 lives and destroyed over 800 houses.
According to a report released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Punjab has been the most affected province, where 135 people lost their lives due to the heavy rains and 470 were injured. In Punjab, 168 houses were partially damaged while 24 were completely destroyed.
The report states that in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 40 people lost their lives and 69 were injured due to the rains. In the province, 142 houses were partially and 78 were completely demolished.
In Sindh, 22 people died and 40 were injured as a result of the rains. Additionally, 54 houses were partially and 33 were completely destroyed.
Similarly, in Balochistan, 16 people died and 4 were injured, while 56 houses were partially and 8 were completely demolished.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, 3 people were injured, while 71 houses were partially and 66 were completely destroyed.
In Azad Kashmir, 1 person lost their life and 6 were injured due to the rains. The region saw 75 houses partially and 17 houses completely destroyed.
In Islamabad, 1 person died due to the rains, while 35 houses were partially and 1 house was completely demolished.
The NDMA report further stated that in the past 24 hours alone, 5 more people have lost their lives, including 3 children. Additionally, 25 houses were demolished and 5 livestock perished.
It is important to note that 804 houses have been completely destroyed across the country so far, and 200 livestock deaths have been reported.
