PM Shehbaz Sharif Hails FBR Reforms as Boost to Tax System
Islamabad – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the progress being made in improving the tax system through reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Chairing a review meeting on FBR reforms, the Prime Minister was briefed on new proposals aimed at enhancing the reform process. He praised the efforts of the officials involved and instructed that clear, practical goals and timelines be set for these proposals, along with a detailed report.
He highlighted the importance of aligning the tax system with modern needs and called the reforms a positive development. However, he emphasized that while achieving initial targets is encouraging, more dedicated efforts are required.
The Prime Minister also urged for stronger enforcement measures to tackle the informal economy. He directed the preparation of a strategy for restructuring FBR’s digital wing and stressed that all relevant stakeholders should be involved in the reform process.
He further stated that the reforms should aim to facilitate traders and taxpayers, with a focus on increasing revenue while easing the overall tax burden.
