NDMA Issues Alert for More Monsoon Rains

The NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) has issued warnings of further incidents as ongoing and forecasted monsoon rains continue until July 25.

The alert applies to most regions of the country, highlighting increased risks of flash floods, riverine flooding, and landslides, especially in northern and mountainous areas.

The NDMA emphasized that landslides and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) pose significant threats in mountainous zones, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It also cautioned about possible rises in water levels of the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, and Kabul rivers.

On the Chenab River, low to moderate flooding is expected at Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad, while increased water flow is forecasted for the upper watershed of Mangla on the Jhelum River and Nowshera on the Kabul River. Rising water levels are also anticipated at the Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa, and Guddu barrages.
