PM Shehbaz Sharif Reaffirms Pakistan’s Readiness for Meaningful Dialogue with India
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue with India on all outstanding issues. He also commended the United Kingdom’s role in helping defuse tensions during past Pakistan-India conflicts, according to a report by 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott at the PM House in Islamabad on Wednesday.
During the discussion, PM Shehbaz conveyed his warm regards to King Charles III and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, expressing his anticipation for a meeting with the UK leadership later this year.
He welcomed the UK government’s recent decision to resume Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights between Pakistan and the UK, noting that it would ease difficulties for the British Pakistani community and promote greater people-to-people contact. He specifically acknowledged the High Commissioner’s efforts in facilitating this development.
On the topic of Pakistan-UK relations, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the positive momentum in bilateral cooperation. He noted that the recently concluded trade talks between the two countries would result in mutually advantageous opportunities. He further mentioned Pakistan’s close collaboration with the UK at the United Nations Security Council, where Pakistan currently holds the monthly Presidency.
The meeting also included discussions on the regional situation in South Asia and the Middle East. PM Shehbaz again expressed appreciation for the UK’s role in easing tensions during the Pakistan-India standoff.
High Commissioner Marriott thanked the Prime Minister for the meeting and shared details of her recent visit to London, where she engaged in consultations to enhance bilateral relations. She praised the Pakistani government’s economic performance over the past year and a half under the leadership of PM Shehbaz Sharif, citing improvements across key macroeconomic indicators. She also shared the UK’s perspective on developments in South Asia and the Middle East.
