Former Indian Air Force Officer Reveals Chaos, Mental Issues, Failures in Indian Air Defense System

A former Indian Air Force officer, Harjit Singh, has revealed serious issues plaguing the Indian military’s air defense system, including chaos, mental health problems among officers, and failures in decision-making.

Speaking to The Wire, Harjit Singh stated that many officers in Indian Air Defense suffer from severe mental stress and psychological issues. He described the entire air defense system as “a sad story and an open joke.”

Singh remarked, “Join Air Defense and live a peaceful life,” highlighting the lack of ambition and stagnation within the ranks. He explained that in the Indian military, every officer aims to become a General, and the resulting pressure contributes to mental health challenges within air defense.

“I have personally witnessed many officers with psychological issues in Air Defense Artillery,” he added.

Harjit Singh further shed light on the outdated equipment still in use. According to him, about 80 percent of the Indian Air Defense’s guns remain old and have become completely useless in modern warfare.

He questioned the relevance of these guns in an era dominated by drones, cruise missiles, and hypersonic technology.

Singh also criticized the quality of Indian Air Defense drones, calling them “very low quality” and stating they barely manage to fly.

Highlighting operational deficiencies, Singh quoted an Indian Air Defense officer who said, “I cannot even turn on the radar because it will be detected.”

He questioned, “If the radar is not operational, how will enemy aircraft, missiles, or drones be detected?”

These revelations collectively paint a picture of incompetence, internal dysfunction, and an ineffective, outdated, and inexperienced air defense system within the Indian military.
