9-Year-Old Child Dies at Hersheypark’s The Boardwalk Water Park

A 9-year-old child died on Thursday after an incident at The Boardwalk, the water park section of Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania. According to Hersheypark, the child showed signs of distress while in the water.

Lifeguards Responded Immediately

Lifeguards at The Boardwalk quickly noticed the child was in trouble. They began rescue efforts right away, followed by continuous medical aid.

“From the moment our lifeguard team recognized that a child was in distress, they performed an immediate rescue, followed by continuous, coordinated life-saving efforts by our lifeguards, on-site first responders, and medical personnel,” said John Lawn, CEO of Hershey Entertainment & Resorts.

Child Pronounced Dead at Hospital

The child was taken to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center but was sadly pronounced dead. The exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

“Our hearts break for this child and the child’s family,” Lawn added. “We extend our deepest condolences for their loss.”

No Specific Attraction Identified

Officials did not disclose the specific water attraction where the incident took place. The child’s identity and personal details were withheld to respect the family’s privacy.

The Boardwalk at Hersheypark includes 16 water attractions, such as the Whitecap Racer and a large wave pool known as The Shore.

Internal Review Underway

Lawn confirmed that the company will carry out an internal review and is fully cooperating with authorities.

“To every family who visits Hersheypark, please know this: your safety and well-being drive every decision we make,” said Lawn. “We will thoroughly investigate this tragedy and honor the memory of this young guest by continuing our focus on ensuring the safety of our guests at Hersheypark.”
