Who was Khawaja Shamsul Islam? Senior Lawyer Passes Away in Shooting

Senior lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam was killed in what appears to be a targeted shooting near a mosque in Karachi’s Defence Phase 6. Two others, including his son, were also injured in the attack.

Incident Details

According to police reports, Khawaja Shamsul Islam had just exited a mosque on Khayaban-e-Rahat after prayers when “unidentified assailants, who had been lying in wait, opened fire on him.” All three victims were rushed to a private hospital, but Khawaja Shamsul Islam succumbed to his injuries. He had sustained three bullet wounds.

Police Investigation Underway

Law enforcement arrived promptly at the scene, and according to the SSP South, “an investigation into the incident is underway.”

Legal Career and Previous Attack

Khawaja Shamsul Islam had been practicing law for over three decades. Known for his expertise in both civil and criminal matters, he represented many high-profile clients, especially in land dispute cases.

This was not the first time he had been targeted. In November last year, Shamsul Islam was attacked in Clifton after Isha prayers. A group of 15 to 20 armed men assaulted him with weapons and shot him, causing serious injuries. An FIR had also been registered against him in a separate matter involving police in the Defence area.
