Public Holiday Announced on Oct 1
The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on August 9 to mark the Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, a respected Sufi poet and saint.
An official notification has been issued stating that all government offices, schools, and institutions in Sindh will remain closed on this day. The holiday is observed every year on the 14th of Safar in the Islamic calendar to honor the life and teachings of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
In addition to the holiday, educational institutions have been asked to celebrate “Latif Day” on August 8, a day before the Urs. Colleges and schools are expected to organize events highlighting the message of love, peace, and unity shared through Shah Latif’s poetry.
People across Sindh celebrate this day by visiting the poet’s shrine, attending gatherings, and listening to recitations of his famous verses. His teachings continue to inspire many even today.
