The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a reduction in electricity prices by Rs1.89 per unit under the quarterly adjustment mechanism. This relief will apply to consumers across the country, including Karachi.
The decision was made after a public hearing held by NEPRA on August 4, 2025. The tariff cut is part of the April to June 2025 quarterly adjustment and is now forwarded to the federal government for final approval.
Key Details of NEPRA’s Decision:
The Rs1.89 per unit reduction will benefit all DISCOs’ consumers, including K-Electric users.
The discounted rates will be applicable for three months: August to October 2025.
Lifeline and prepaid electricity users will not be eligible for this relief.
NEPRA said that the total financial benefit to consumers would be Rs55.874 billion.
The distribution companies (DISCOs) had earlier submitted a request to NEPRA for the tariff reduction.
