TEHRAN – A blaze that began in a roadside tent for Arbaeen pilgrims spread to nearby shelters due to strong winds at the Mehran border crossing with Iraq, Iranian media reported on Saturday. The crossing is a key gateway for Iranians traveling to Karbala for the annual Shia procession.
According to reports, the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. The flames quickly engulfed several temporary shelters set up for pilgrims, forcing authorities to take emergency measures to prevent further damage. No casualties have been reported so far.
