GB Police Protest Over Daily Allowance, Dozens Suspended

13 August, 2025 20:23

Police personnel in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) have resumed protests, demanding the release of their daily allowance (DA), which was previously approved by the GB Assembly.

Despite earlier assurances from government and senior police officials, hundreds of officers, including both men and women, gathered outside the Chief Minister’s House to protest through the night, calling for the implementation of the promised benefits.

In response, over 35 officers have been suspended across Gilgit and Hunza districts. On Tuesday, 35 police personnel were suspended, and their salaries were halted for participating in sit-ins.

According to two official notifications, 26 officers were suspended in Gilgit for “grave misconduct,” while 9 were suspended in Hunza simply for taking part in the protest.

The GB Police also claimed on social media that 63 personnel had been dismissed for breaking discipline, though no formal notification confirming this dismissal has been issued yet.

Earlier, the GB Assembly passed a bill approving daily allowances for police personnel, but implementation has yet to take place—fueling frustration among the force.
