From Jessica Radcliff to BabyDoll Archi: 4 Times AI-Generated Videos Went Viral — How to Spot Them
Artificial intelligence is now part of our daily lives, whether we want it or not. One type, generative AI, is being used in many everyday tasks. But not all the effects of this technology are good. Recently, several AI-made videos have gone viral online, confusing many people. Here are four examples where AI videos fooled viewers — and tips on how to recognize them.
Jessica Radcliff’s Terrifying Orca Video
A video showed a young woman, Jessica Radcliff, dancing on top of an orca at Pacific Blue Marine Park, only to be attacked and killed by the whale. The shocking clip quickly spread online. But authorities, marine parks, and news outlets could find no record of Jessica or the event. It was later confirmed the video was completely AI-generated.
Marina Lysaro Orca Attack
Fake orca videos seem to be trending. Another scary video claimed that Marina Lysaro, an orca trainer, was attacked by a killer whale during a show. The post asked people to honor Marina’s memory. But just like Jessica’s case, no such person existed, and the video was AI-made.
Animals Jumping on a Trampoline
Animal lovers and internet users saw cute videos of bunnies and bears jumping on a trampoline in what looked like real surveillance footage. The clips quickly went viral for being adorable. But many were shocked to discover these videos were also created by AI.
BabyDoll Archi Deepfake Scandal in India
In a case that shocked India, police arrested Pratim Bora for running an Instagram account called ‘BabyDoll Archi.’ The account used AI deepfake images and videos pretending to be Archita Phukan, a real person. The fake account spread widely before the truth came out.
How to Spot AI-Generated Videos
There are ways to tell if a video is AI-made:
Look for unnatural human movements that seem off.
Check for uneven lighting or strange shadows.
Watch for faces that glitch or distort slightly during motion.
Notice if lip-sync is slightly off from the sound.
Spot skin that looks too perfect, with no natural flaws.
Pause the video and inspect the background for missing details, twisted objects, or odd hand shapes, which AI struggles to render properly.
Being aware of these clues helps avoid falling for fake AI videos.
