Govt cut public transport fares after fuel price drop
After reducing petroleum prices, the government has now ordered a 5% cut in public transport fares across the country.
According to the Transport Department, all regional transport authorities have been told to apply the new rates immediately. This comes after diesel prices fell by Rs. 12.84 per litre.
The new fare list shows reduced travel costs between major cities. For example:
Lahore to Sargodha: Rs. 50 less, now Rs. 1,060
Lahore to Islamabad: Rs. 100 less, now Rs. 1,950
Lahore to Peshawar: Rs. 120 less, now Rs. 2,380
Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan: Rs. 140 less, now Rs. 2,810
Lahore to Hyderabad: Rs. 300 less, now Rs. 5,800
Lahore to Karachi: Rs. 320 less, now Rs. 6,040
Rana Mohsin, Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority Lahore, said the new fares take effect today. He added that this step will give people much-needed relief after the drop in fuel prices.
