Karachi Rains: JSMU Moves Classes Online, Campus Closed

In a statement, the Vice Chancellor clarified that while the university premises will remain shut for all in-person activity, online classes and academic operations will proceed without interruption. “The university leadership will personally oversee and monitor online sessions to ensure that learning is not disrupted,” Professor Memon added.

All examinations scheduled for Thursday have been officially postponed. New dates for the exams will be announced once the weather situation stabilizes and students can safely return to campus.

The decision comes as parts of Karachi continue to experience heavy rainfall and urban flooding, prompting several private schools and colleges—especially in areas like Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Model Colony, Alfalah Society, and FB Area—to also announce closures for Thursday. However, the Sindh government has not yet declared a general holiday for educational institutions.

JSMU’s proactive shift to online platforms reflects a broader move by educational institutions in the city to maintain academic continuity despite infrastructural challenges caused by the monsoon season.

Students are advised to regularly check official university platforms and communication channels for further updates regarding classes and rescheduled exams.
