Speed of Pakistan’s first bullet train between Lahore -Karachi revealed
Pakistan Railways has announced that a high-speed bullet train will soon connect Karachi and Lahore, marking a big step forward for the country’s transport system.
Railway Minister Hanif Abbasi said the bullet train service is expected to begin by 2030. The new train will run on a 1,215-kilometer route that is part of the Main Line-1 (ML-1) project. This project is being upgraded under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) at an estimated cost of $6.8 billion.
According to reports, the bullet train will travel at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour. It will make important stops at Hyderabad, Multan, and Sahiwal, reducing travel time between major cities.
The project is being developed with help from China, and the China Railway Construction Corporation will play a key role. Along with the new rail line, Pakistan Railways will also upgrade the double track, build new bridges, and install a modern signaling system.
Earlier, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) also announced $2 billion in financing for the upgradation of the Karachi to Rohri railway section, which is part of the larger ML-1 project.
Once completed, this bullet train project is expected to transform rail travel in Pakistan, making it faster, safer, and more efficient.
