Punjab schools reopen after extended summer vacations

Sindh schools and colleges remain closed from Sept 23 to 27
All schools across Punjab, including Lahore, reopened on Monday after the summer vacations. The holidays had been extended by 15 days, with the reopening date moved from August 15 to August 31.
Students returned to classes with mixed feelings — many were excited to meet friends again, while some looked sad as the holidays ended.
However, in Lahore, 45 schools are still closed. Authorities explained that these schools have been converted into relief camps for flood victims.
The floods in Punjab have caused massive damage. According to the Director General of PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, 33 people lost their lives, and around 2 million people in 2,200 villages were affected. He said this is the biggest flood in Punjab’s history, impacting all three rivers of the province.
So far, 700,000 people have been evacuated from flood-hit areas. At Kasur, water levels in the Sutlej River have started to decrease, but at Head Sulaimanki, the water is still rising.
