Modi to Skip UNGA Session, Jaishankar to Represent India
New Delhi – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not attend the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Instead, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will represent India at the global forum.
According to Indian media reports, this is not the first time Modi has skipped the UNGA session. Over the years, he has often preferred senior diplomats or ministers to take part on India’s behalf.
This year’s UNGA session is expected to feature high-profile global leaders, including US President Donald Trump. Modi’s absence has sparked political debate in India, with critics questioning whether the decision reflects diplomatic priorities or domestic political considerations.
Analysts say that Jaishankar, a seasoned diplomat, is well-positioned to present India’s stance on key issues such as regional security, global peace, climate change, and economic cooperation. However, Modi’s absence from the world stage, particularly when major global powers are participating, is being closely noted.
Opposition voices in India have criticized the Prime Minister for avoiding the session, suggesting it may have been a missed opportunity for direct engagement with global leaders.
