Imran Khan Declines to Reveal X Account Handler During FIA Probe
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan has refused to disclose the identity of the person managing his X (formerly Twitter) account during questioning by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) at Adiala Jail.
According to sources, FIA’s cybercrime wing initiated an inquiry after a series of alleged anti-state posts appeared from Khan’s account. A three-member FIA team, led by Ayaz Khan, visited Adiala Jail and questioned Khan regarding the account’s operator, access points, and his knowledge of the controversial content.
However, Khan reportedly refused to share details, demanding a written questionnaire and insisting that he would respond only in the presence of his legal team. The FIA team stayed at the jail for over an hour before departing.
On Wednesday, PTI’s official X account quoted Khan as saying that a leaked Commonwealth report on the February 8 general elections “exposed how shamelessly and brazenly our mandate was stolen.” He accused Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja of facilitating electoral fraud, remarking: “In Pakistan, the law on vote theft is strict, and Article 6 applies to such acts. But at present, all laws in the country stand suspended except the so-called ‘Asim Law’.”
Referring to former Rawalpindi commissioner Liaqat Ali Chattha, Khan added that he “deserve praise for prioritising conscience over office,” while criticizing the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment after what he termed as electoral theft.
“The time to legally accept a government formed through rigging has now ended,” Khan asserted, explaining his party’s decision to resign from the Senate and parliamentary committees. Urging PTI lawmakers to resist intimidation, he stated: “A single individual, driven by lust for power, wants to suppress you. The more you fear him, the more he will press you down. You are on the side of truth, and truth makes one courageous — and in the end, truth always prevails.”
It is worth noting that in a 2024 interview, former PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan had revealed that Khan’s official X account was being operated from abroad, with the party’s social media head based in the United States.
